Hagiga Wahid aims to provide information verification and misinformation management services to South Sudanese refugees and host communities in northern Uganda as well as in other areas where the project can be expanded. Since misinformation and propaganda act as catalysts for violent conflict, providing an effective means to verify information and counter misinformation serves the larger objectives of violence prevention, government accountability, and public participation in governance. While Hagiga Wahid is being set up in response to the conflict in South Sudan and the resulting large number of South Sudanese refugees living in northern Uganda, it will also engage with Ugandan host communities, which are important stakeholders. In the longer term, it is intended that Hagiga Wahid in Uganda will be linked with similar projects in South Sudan and other countries with a connection to the conflict.
