A member of the Sentinel Project Research Team, Collin Sullivan, is currently attending the 2011 Strata Conference in Santa Clara, California, where this year’s theme is “Making Data Work.” Strata is a great opportunity for Collin since he has a strong interest in using quantitative analysis for assessing the risk of genocide, which is the focus of his work with us. The conference has several interesting sessions, including topics such as “Crowdsourcing and the Democratization of Data” and “Unleashing Twitter Data for Fun and Insight,” where Collin will have the opportunity to acquire useful new knowledge. The focus on gathering data through social media and visualizing it creatively online also fits perfectly with the tools in development to be used with our early warning system.
Collin will be posting regular updates from Strata at Information Aesthetics, where he is a guest blogger, and will have a summary up here soon.
