Reporting to the Executive Director, the Finance Coordinator will oversee our fundraising, grant administration, accounting, and compliance activities. This is presently an unpaid, primarily “virtual” role which will require approximately five hours per week, as well as responsiveness to email outside of those hours.
What you’ll do:
- Assist in guiding the organization’s financial strategy, including the development of revenue based on grants, individual donations, and corporate philanthropy
- Oversee and report on all accounts, ledgers, and reporting systems to ensure appropriate compliance and auditability, while also suggesting and managing appropriate controls for revenue and expenses
- Oversee internal financial staff and activities, such as expense reimbursement, as well as external auditors, tax preparers, accountants, and other potential third-party resources
- Assist with annual budgeting and planning processes and participate, via email or voice calls, in discussions relating to the organization’s financial strategy
What you’ll need:
- Strong financial background in the for-profit and non-profit sectors, including specific experience overseeing grants and donations
- Proficiency with accounting tools and methodologies, and particularly Wave Accounting
- Comfortable using Google Apps, especially Google Drive / Docs
- Ability to manage workflows using customer relationship management (CRM) systems, databases, spreadsheets, task management tools, and other similar technologies
- Passionate about the symbiotic relationship of people and technology in conflict areas
- Ability to work independently with minimal direct oversight
Your experience should include:
- 5+ years in a financial leadership role in the for-profit or non-profit sector
- Post-secondary degree in a relevant discipline such as business administration or finance
- Some prior volunteer experience working for a cause that you support
