The Sentinel Project (www.thesentinelproject.org) is a 70-member, non-profit organization
founded in 2009. Our goal is to prevent genocide internationally through the innovative use of
research and technology. Our Early Warning System (EWS), used for assessment and genocide
forecasting, enables us to systematically track genocide-sensitive regions and provide
proactive, non-violent support to vulnerable areas.
In 2009, our approach was selected as a finalist in Google’s 10 to the 100th competition
for innovative social applications of technology. In 2010, we were recognized as one of
four genocide prevention organizations in Canada. In 2011, the United Nations invited us to
showcase some of our ideas at Telecom World in Geneva, Switzerland.
To prevent genocide by creating and utilizing early-warning tools and mechanisms and
cooperating with threatened communities.

We are recruiting professionals with specific skills in one or more of the following
areas, to serve as Board members for the Sentinel Project:
- Fundraising – experience in: development and implementation of funding
- campaigns; donor relations; identification of public and
- private funding sources
- Public Relations
- Marketing
- Financial oversight
Successful candidates will act as ambassadors of the Sentinel Project. They are also
expected to advise the strategic direction of the Sentinel Project and fulfill high-level
oversight of the organisation’s financial / operational administration.
3-4 meetings per year in downtown Toronto. Participation in occasional planning
workshops.
